The commemoration of the destruction of the first and second Temples takes place this Saturday evening and Sunday. Tisha B’Av (the 9th day of Av) is the only full fast day other than Yom Kippur, and is marked by the reading of the Book of Lamentations, Eicha, and by solemn prayers and songs. The schedule for Tisha B’Av services is as follows:

 

Note: Shabbat Mincha will be at 1:00 pm after lunch

 

Saturday – 8:30 pm. We mark the end of Shabbat and the beginning of Tisha B’Av. Please remember to bring a flashlight for the reading of Eicha.

 

Sunday – 9:00 am – Shacharit. Tallit and tefillin are NOT worn at this service. There is a Torah reading and a haftara.

              6:00 pm – Mincha. Tallit and tefillin ARE worn at this time. There is a Torah reading and a haftarah.

 

The fast officially ends Sunday night at 8:23 pm.
