Social Action
The West End Synagogue Social Action Committee works to encourage WES members to express their Jewish values concerning tikkun olam through continuing and expanding their outreach to the community and efforts to aid and improve the lives of those in need. The committee broadens members' awareness of different social justice issues through periodic speakers and supports and develops initiatives to reduce hunger and poverty and assist the homeless, in the Nashville community.
Examples of projects include:
- Help to provide safe shelter and meals at the synagogue to homeless men in the Room in the Inn program
- Support Metro Public Schools' services for homeless and underprivileged children through collecting needed clothing items, packing backpacks of supplies, and tutoring children in shelter housing
- Hold a drive to support Second Harvest Food Bank; and helping to pack emergency food boxes at Second Harvest.
