USY and Kadima
MTUSY (Middle Tennessee United Synagogue Youth) is West End Synagogue's youth group for high school students in grades 9 to 12, ages 15 to 18. Kadima is for middle school students in grades 6 to 8, ages 12 to 14. The chapter is part of the Ein Gedi sub-region which covers TN, GA, AL, LA, NC, SC and KY. The sub-region joins with two others in Florida to form HaNegev, the Southern Region. While sponsored by the Conservative Movement, membership is open to any Jewish teen.
Activities are centered around: religious, education, social action, tikkun olam, Israel and social. On the first Saturday each month, we help make the evening minyan and then have a fun and relaxing "lounge night" in our youth lounge. Approximately every 5 weeks, there is a Friday night Shabbat dinner at a family's house. Sometimes events are after religious school on Sunday afternoon.
MTUSY bakes and sells hamentashen for the congregation, and plans the annual Purim party, after the megillah reading.
